Abstract

The acculturation between Islam and local culture in Indonesia has resulted in a significant transformation in hijab fashion, which serves as a symbol of the dynamic interaction between religious values and local culture. This study aims to analyze the acculturation process that occurs in the design and use of hijab, as well as the social and cultural impacts it causes. Using John W. Berry's Theory of Acculturation, this study shows that the hijab is not just a head covering, but also reflects a rich cultural identity. The results revealed that local cultural elements, such as traditional batik and hijab motifs, are integrated into modern hijab designs, providing opportunities for the empowerment of Muslim women in the creative industries. Despite positive impacts such as the preservation of local culture and economic growth, challenges such as the commodification of religious values must still be faced. This study concludes that the acculturation of hijab fashion creates a balance between religious and cultural values, while highlighting the importance of maintaining the original meaning of the hijab as a religious symbol.
