Abstract

Malay and Chinese ethnic groups are two main entities of the diversity of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. Historically, the arrival of the Malay ethnic group to Bangka Island cannot be separated from the history of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate. with the Chinese ethnic group who had also been on Bangka Island before the existence of Indonesia. The history of the arrival of these two ethnic groups, both Malay and Chinese, was due to the presence of tin commodities. For the rulers of Malacca and the Palembang Sultanate, in addition to tin, the presence of spices also became a special attraction. This study discusses the Malay and Chinese Ethnic Groups: The Life of Religious Tolerance in the West Bangka Community. The focus of this study is religious tolerance through political channels, Malay and Chinese Ethnic Villages in West Bangka and Religious Tolerance through Cultural Heritage in West Bangka. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a descriptive analysis approach. Data sources were obtained from literature studies, observations and interviews with West Bangka historians regarding the religious tolerance of the West Bangka Community. The results of the study show that religious tolerance between the Malay and Chinese ethnic communities can be proven through political channels, settlements or villages and through Cultural Heritage. Economic equality between the Chinese and Malay ethnic groups means that there is no social gap that makes neighborly life harmonious and peaceful. The similarity of workplaces and schools also makes communication and interaction between the Chinese and Malay ethnic groups run well. Religious tolerance in West Bangka is also proven by the existence of Cultural Heritage which is located very close to each other, namely the Kong Fuk Miau Temple and the Muntok Jami Mosque which are very close and located in the center of Muntok City and are the center of economic turnover.
